Born in Ireland, Cecil King (1921-1986) was in the main a self-taught artist. From the late 1960s his work portrayed a minimalist style with blocks of colour, geometric forms and clean lines. In 1981 he had a major retrospective at the Hugh Lane Gallery, and in 2008 a solo exhibition at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA).
